Elijah and the Widow

This weekend we will finish our series called, “Give it Away: A Lesson on Loving Actions,” and learn about a woman who shared even when she didn’t have much to give.

On board the yellow submarine, our friend Trina the turtle tells us that she is having trouble cleaning her room because she has so many toys on her floor. We suggest that she give away some of the toys she does not play with to people who are in need. Trina doesn’t like the idea of giving her toys away, so we tell her the story of Elijah and the widow.

One day Elijah was hungry and did not have any food to eat. God told Elijah to go to a nearby town where he would find a woman who would help him. When he got to the town, he asked the woman for some bread and water. The woman replied that she only had enough flour and oil to make one meal for her and her son. Elijah told her that if she made him some bread that God would make sure she never went hungry. So, the woman made Elijah some food and God took care of her. He made sure that her oil and water didn’t run out!

The story helps Trina to realize that unlike the woman in the story, she has a lot to share and she decidesthat her old baby rattles are the perfect toys to donate to someone else. We will focus on how God loves when we share with other people. See you this weekend!
