The Great Commandment
This weekend we are continuing our series called, “Friends Forever: a lesson on the love of Jesus” and we are learning that Jesus wants us to love Him.
On board the yellow submarine, our friend Dexter the turtle tells us about all the nice things his little sister Trina had done for him. She let him have the last cookie, she let him pick out the movie they watched and she even put his stinky socks in the laundry basket for him. But Trina is sad because Dexter isn’t showing her that he loves her back. We tell Dexter about The Great Commandment found in Mark 12:28-34.
A teacher asks Jesus what the most important rule or commandment is. Jesus tells the teacher that there are two rules that are greater than all the rest, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.' And here is the second one. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' “
When Dexter hears what Jesus had told the teacher, he realizes that he needs to show love to his sister Trina. We learn that it’s important to love other people and that even though Jesus loves us no matter what - we need to show Him that we love him back. See you this weekend!
