Cookies and... Water?

This weekend we are continuing our series called, “Just Like Me: A Study on the Twelve Disciples.” We will learn that Jesus did nice things for his friends the disciples and we should do nice things for people too.

On board our yellow submarine, our pal Dexter the turtle tells us that he is preparing to have his very first clubhouse meeting and he wants to think of something really fun to do. We help him think of some ideas and decide that the club should watch the new Super Turtle movie and that Dexter should bake cookies for everyone. Dexter doesn’t like the idea because he thinks that he’s too important to be baking cookies. We decide to tell him the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet in John chapter 13.

One night, when Jesus and his friends were having a special dinner party, Jesus got up from the table and filled a bowl with water. Then Jesus started washing all of His friends’ feet! Jesus was the special guest, the most important person at the dinner, and He was doing the dirtiest job of all! Jesus told His friends that just like He had done something nice for them, He wanted them to do nice things for other people.

The story helps Dexter to realize that we should always do nice things for people and that no one should act more important than anyone else. We learn that the same goes for all of us.
See you all this weekend!
