We suggest that she give away some of the toys she does not play with to people who are in need. Trina doesn’t like the idea of giving her toys away, so we tell her the story of Elijah and the widow.

One day Elijah was hungry and did not have any food to eat. God told Elijah to go to a nearby town where he would find a woman who would help him. When he got to the town, he asked the woman for some bread and water. The woman replied that she only had enough flour and oil to make one meal for her and her son. Elijah told her that if she made him some bread that God would make sure she never went hungry. So, the woman made Elijah some food and God took care of her. He made sure that her oil and water didn’t run out!

The story helps Trina to realize that unlike the woman in the story, she has a lot to share and she decidesthat her old baby rattles are the perfect toys to donate to someone else. We will focus on how God loves when we share with other people. See you this weekend!

Give It Away

This week we will continue our series called, "Give it Away: A Lesson on Loving Actions," and learn about some friends who helped out even when they didn't get a reward for it.

On board the yellow submarine, we will ask our friends Dexter and Freddy why Trina isn't playing with them. They say she is busy trying to make a block castle for her dolls and she is having a lot of trouble. We ask them why they aren't helping her build her castle and they say that there is no reason for them to help when they don't like playing with dolls. We tell Dexter and Freddy the story of some men who worked together to help a friend who needed them.

Long ago, there was a man who couldn't walk. He was paralyzed. And one day, Jesus was teaching and healing people in a house nearby. The man's friends believed that Jesus could help their friend walk again, so they carried him to the house. When they got there, the house was full of people and there was no way to get through the door to see Jesus. The friends had an idea though! They carried the man up on top of the house, dug a hole in the roof and lowered their friend down to Jesus. When Jesus saw how much the men loved their friend, He healed him! The man picked up the mat he was lying on and started walking!

The story helps Dexter and Freddy to realize that they should help Trina even if they aren't going to play with the doll castle and it shows us that helping people is the right thing to do, even if you don't get the reward. We tell Freddy that it’s always nice to do more than you are asked to do. We tell him the story of Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 24.

A man named Abraham wanted his son Isaac to get married, so he sent his servant to another town to find Isaac a wife. When the servant reached the town, he stopped at a well and prayed that God would help him find the right wife for Isaac. When the servant opened his eyes a girl named Rebekah was getting water from the well. The servant asked her for some water and she gave him some. Then, she got water for all ten of the servant’s camels too! When Rebekah did the extra work without being asked, the servant knew that she was the woman Isaac was supposed to marry. Rebekah traveled back home with the servant and married Isaac.

The story helps Freddy to realize that he should go help his parents clean up. When Dexter’s sister Trina asks Dexter to share with her, he says that there isn’t enough for two people. We tell Dexter the story of the boy who shared his food.

One day, a crowd of over 5000 people had gathered around Jesus. When it started getting late, Jesus’ friends the disciples told Jesus to send everyone home so that they could eat dinner. Jesus didn’t want to send everyone home, so he asked his friends to see if anyone had brought any food with them. The disciples found a young boy who offered to share his five loaves of bread and two small fish. As Jesus broke up the bread and fish, a miracle happened. There was enough food for everyone and there were even twelve baskets left over after the crowd had eaten. The story shows Dexter the importance of sharing and he decides to share his fruit snacks with his sister.

The memory verse for this series is: “Don’t forget to help others and to share.” Hebrew 13:16. Dexter told us that after his mom put a band-aid on his hand, it felt much better! But after talking to Dexter some more, we realized that he never thanked his mom for her help.

We told Dexter the story of The Ten Lepers found in Luke 17:11-19. One day when Jesus was traveling, ten men saw Him. The men were Lepers. They had sores all over their bodies and they wanted Jesus to make them better. Jesus told the men to start walking to the church in the city and along the way He healed them all. It was a miracle! Then, one man ran back and threw himself at Jesus’ feet. He was the only man who came back to say thank you.

After hearing the story, Dexter realized that he should say thank you to his mom and we learned that we should be thankful to God for the big and small miracles that we experience everyday. See you next week!

Jesus Heals A Blind Man

This weekend we will continue our series called, “Miracle Man,” and learn about another one of Jesus’ amazing miracles!

On board our yellow submarine, our friends Trina and Freddy want to play doctor. Freddy pretends he has a cough and we give him some pretend medicine to make him feel better. Trina makes believe that she has dance fever and she can't stop dancing. We tell her that there is no cure for dance fever, so medicine isn't going to work.

After we get a special letter in the mail, we realize that Jesus is the only one who can make people better when there’s no cure. We learn the story of Jesus healing a blind man in John 9. When Jesus saw the blind man, He spit in the dirt and used His hands to make mud out of it. Then, He told the blind man to go to a nearby pool of water to wash the mud off. When the man did what Jesus had asked, he could see! It was a miracle!

After hearing the story, Trina decides that she is going to pretend that Jesus has healed her dance fever with a miracle. Some of Jesus’ friends were out on a boat fishing. They waited all night for some fish to swim into their nets, but they didn’t catch even one fish! Early the next morning, Jesus called out to them. He asked if they had caught any fish. When Jesus’ friends said no, Jesus told them to throw their net out the other side of the boat. As soon as they did, their net was full of fish! Jesus had done a miracle for them!

We will also be learning the verse: "His miracles are marvelous" Job 5:9. They say that it was so fun, but they also learned that their friend Lola was going to be moving to the other side of the ocean. Lola explains that there isn’t a clubhouse on the other side of the ocean, so she won’t be able to be part of a club.

We tell her the story of when Jesus left the earth to live in heaven. Jesus told his disciples before He left that He wanted them to keep teaching people about God, even though He wouldn’t be there to help them. He told them that they wouldn’t have to do it alone.

Hearing the Bible story helps Lola to realize that she could make her very own clubhouse on the other side of the ocean! We help him think of some ideas and decide that the club should watch the new Super Turtle movie and that Dexter should bake cookies for everyone. Dexter doesn’t like the idea because he thinks that he’s too important to be baking cookies. We decide to tell him the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet in John chapter 13.

One night, when Jesus and his friends were having a special dinner party, Jesus got up from the table and filled a bowl with water. Then Jesus started washing all of His friends’ feet! Jesus was the special guest, the most important person at the dinner, and He was doing the dirtiest job of all! Jesus told His friends that just like He had done something nice for them, He wanted them to do nice things for other people.

The story helps Dexter to realize that we should always do nice things for people and that no one should act more important than anyone else. We learn that the same goes for all of us.

See you all this weekend!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://preschoolvolunteers.blogspot.com/2009/09/cookies-and-water.html' title='Cookies and... She let him have the last cookie, she let him pick out the movie they watched and she even put his stinky socks in the laundry basket for him. But Trina is sad because Dexter isn’t showing her that he loves her back. We tell Dexter about The Great Commandment found in Mark 12:28-34.

A teacher asks Jesus what the most important rule or commandment is. Jesus tells the teacher that there are two rules that are greater than all the rest, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.' And here is the second one. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' “

When Dexter hears what Jesus had told the teacher, he realizes that he needs to show love to his sister Trina. We learn that it’s important to love other people and that even though Jesus loves us no matter what - we need to show Him that we love him back. Our turtle, Dexter, is sad because he thinks his parents forgot that he needs a backpack for kindergarten too! We tell Dexter that he shouldn’t worry because his parents always take care of him and so does Jesus. We tell Dexter and Freddy the story of The Lost Sheep found in Luke 15:1-7 and Matthew 18:12-14.

The story is told by Jesus and is about a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One day, one of the sheep wandered off. Jesus said the shepherd left his whole flock of sheep to go looking for the one who was lost. He said the shepherd was so happy when he found his sheep because he didn’t want to lose any of them. It is so cool that they are best friends, but there is someone else who wants to be best friends with them too… Jesus! Dexter and Freddy can't understand why someone as important as Jesus would want to be friends with them, so we will tell them the story of Jesus and the children found in Mark 10:13-16.

One day a crowd of people came around Jesus. Jesus sat with them and talked with them and even healed some of them. Then, some people started bringing their children to Jesus. They wanted Jesus to pray for their children. The disciples told the children to go away because they thought Jesus was too busy for them, but Jesus stopped them. He wanted the children to come to Him. He told the disciples that they shouldn’t keep the children away.

The story helps Dexter and Freddy to learn that Jesus does want to be their best friend and we will learn that He wants to be ours too!

See you all this weekend!

I Worship God When I Obey

This week we are finishing our “Center Stage” series about worship and learning, “I worship God when I obey Him.” We will watch as the Center Stage band has a big decision to make – to go to the Biggest Music Festival Ever or to go to church. The band thinks that they should go to the music festival so they can become famous. Their bus driver, Enzo, tells them that it was important to obey God and go to church. He decides that they need to hear a Bible story about a man named Abraham. Abraham had lived in the same place for 75 years. One day, God asked Abraham to leave his home and move to a different country. It was hard for Abraham to want to obey God, but he did. He packed up his things and moved, just like God asked him too. The story helps the band to think about the decision that they have to make. On the way to their concert, their bus driver, Enzo, tells them they need to hear a story from the Bible. The story is about a man who hadn’t been able to walk for a very long time. Every day, he would lie in front of the temple gate and ask people for money because he couldn’t work. One day, some of Jesus’ followers named Peter and John came by. They told the man that they didn’t have any silver or gold for him, but they would give him what they did have. They said, “In the name of Jesus Christ, get up and walk.” Then Peter grabbed the man’s hand, helped him up… and he could stand! He could walk! Peter and John had decided to show the man love instead of walking by him. The story helps the band to see that they should show each other love. They decide to apologize to one another and Pearl even dedicates a special song to her band mates.
We can't wait to see you all this weekend!

I Worship God When I Give

This weekend we are continuing our “Center Stage” series about worship and we learn: I worship God when I give. We will watch as our favorite band talks about all of the things they were going to buy with the money they had made at their concerts. Pearl wants to buy all things “pink.” Leaf says he is going to build a candy making factory. And Z says he will spend his money on popsicles. When their bus driver, Enzo, hears about what they are going to do with their money, he tells them a story from the Bible in Luke chapter 21. One day, Jesus was at the temple talking with some people about God. Jesus was also watching some people drop their money into the offering. When Jesus looked around, He saw there were many people who had lots of money to drop into the offering. Then, a woman who did not have very much money quietly dropped two small coins into the offering. It was not much. But it was all she had. Jesus was very happy that the woman gave her money. By giving, she was worshiping God. The story helps the band to realize that God wants us to use our money for things we need, but He also wants us to be willing to give some of it to Him and others. The band decides to give half of all their concert money to God so He could use it to help others. And money isn’t the only thing we can give to help others. We can give time, food, help, or even a hug! See you all this weekend!

I Worship God When I Help Others

This week we continuing our “Center Stage” series about worship and we will learn: I worship God when I help others. We get to see favorite band as they travel to their concert when suddenly they get a flat tire. The bus driver, Enzo, asks the band mates to help Him change the tire, but they refuse! They think they are too important to help others. Enzo decides to tell them the story of the Good Samaritan. He says, one day, a man was traveling to a town when some mean people came and hurt him. They beat him up and left him lying on the ground beside the road. After a while, he saw someone coming who he thought would help him, but he didn’t. He just left him there and walked on the other side of the road. Soon, someone else came by. The man thought he would help him, but he walked right by him too! Then, he saw another man coming, and he didn’t think that he would help either. But the man did help him! He put bandages on him and took him to a nice room where he could rest. That man was worshiping God by helping others. The story of the Good Samaritan helps the band to realize that they should help Enzo change the tire. They realize God loves when we help others and helping people is one way that we can worship God.
See you this weekend!

I Worship God When I Pray to Him

This week we are continuing our “Center Stage” series about worship. We will learn that, “I worship God when I pray to Him.” We will watch as our favorite guitar player, Leaf, goes searching for his lost guitar pick. The other band mates, Pearl and Z help too, but they can't find it anywhere. When Enzo, the bus driver learns about their situation he asks if they have tried praying about it. The band says that praying won’t help them. Enzo decides to tell them about Hannah’s Prayer in 1 Samuel. Hannah wanted a child, but she did not have any and she was very sad. One day, Hannah prayed to God. She told Him she was sad and wanted a child. She asked God to help her, went home, and waited. And guess what happened? God gave her a son! She was so happy and she named her son Samuel because she knew that God had answered her prayer. Hannah learned throughout her life that she worshiped God when she prayed. The story helps the Center Stage band to try praying for the lost guitar pick. After they pray, they find the pick! The band learns that they can pray anywhere, anytime, and about anything… and so can you. We will watch our favorite band get ready to perform some of their songs. Pearl dreams about singing to movie stars and royalty. Leaf dreams about singing to his pet rock and his turtle. And Z dreams about singing to popsicles.
On the way to the performance, the band's bus driver, Enzo, explains that they have mentioned a lot of important people they want to sing to, but they have forgotten about God. He tells them a story from the Bible about a man named David. David loved to worship God through singing and music. In fact, the book of Psalms in the Bible has many of the songs David wrote to worship God. David worshiped God when we was a shepherd in the field watching sheep. And later, God made David king over the Israelites and they sang a song to God to thank him for doing great things.
The story of David teaches the band that a great way to worship God is to sing to Him. You can check out some the story in Psalm 145:1-13. She really wants to give thanks at the end of her performance to Me, Myself, and I. The band’s bus driver, Enzo, tells Pearl about the Song of Miriam in the Bible. Miriam was Moses’ sister, and Moses and Miriam sang a song to thank God after He parted the Red Sea to save their people from pharaoh’s army. You can check the story out in Exodus 15:1-21. In our final lesson, we will discover that we should thank God for what we have. We will watch as Sir Pogo the Knight and Darren the Donkey go on an adventure to find the Satchel of Thanks. They have a hard time finding the satchel until the queen sends them an important message - a Bible story that is a clue to help them on their search. The story is found in Luke 1:26-55 and tells about how the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was going to have a baby named Jesus! When Mary found out that God had given her a special son, she sang a song thanking Him and praising Him for all that He had done for her! The Bible story helps Sir Pogo and Darius discover that praying and thanking God for what they have is the key to finding the Satchel of Thanks.

In the spirit of thankfulness, I just want to thank each of you for all of your help. Your investment in the children's lives is such a blessing.

Gloves of Prayer

This weekend we will continue our “Kingdom Tales” series about the Armor of God and discover that we can ask God for the things we need in our lives. We will watch as Sir Pogo the Knight and Darren the Donkey go on an adventure to find the Gloves of Prayer. They are having trouble finding the gloves until the queen sends them an important message - a Bible story that is a clue to help them on their search. The story is found in 1 Kings 3:3 -14 and tells about a man named Solomon who had just become king. One night, God spoke to Solomon in a dream because He knew that Solomon was having trouble with his job as king. God told Solomon to ask Him for something and He would give it to him. Solomon asked for wisdom and God answered his prayer! Some people say Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived! God taught Solomon that he could pray and ask for anything that he needed. After hearing the Bible story, Sir Pogo and Darren pray and ask for God’s help in finding the Gloves of Prayer and God answers their prayer too. They have a hard time finding the sword until the queen sends them an important message - a Bible story that is a clue to help them on their search. The story is found in Acts 8:26-38 and tells how Philip helped a man from Ethiopia understand what he was reading in his Bible. After the man understood what the Bible said and learned how Jesus died for our sins, he wanted to be baptized right away just like the Bible tells us to do. After hearing the story, Sir Pogo and Darren also decided to do what the Bible says and share some food with a guard who was hungry. The guard ended up having the Sword of the Spirit and gave it to Sir Pogo and Darren! Jesus died on a cross so that we can be forgiven, but He rose again three days later and went to heaven! The Bible story helps Sir Pogo and Darren find the Helmet of Salvation. The king of Babylon was bad and wanted the people in his kingdom to do bad things. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abenego decided to follow God instead of the king. The bad king got very angry and threw the men into a fiery furnace. God sent an angel to protect them in the furnace though, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego didn't get hurt! Sir Pogo is having a hard time finding the shoes because he knows that the berry thief has done something wrong but he doesn’t want to help the berry thief do what is right. The queen of the kingdom sends Sir Pogo an important message - a Bible story that is a clue to help him on his search. The story is found in 1 Samuel 26:5-11 and tells about a man named David who the King did not like very much and was even trying to hurt. One night, David and his friend Abishai sneaked into the king’s tent and found him sleeping with his spear next to him. Abishai thought it was the perfect time to kill the king so that he wouldn’t chase after David anymore, but David helped his friend do what is right. He said it would be wrong to hurt the king because God had chosen him to be king and wouldn’t want David to hurt him. The Bible story helps Sir Pogo and Darren discover that telling the berry bandit to give the berries back is the key to finding the Shoes of Peace. We will watch as Sir Pogo the Knight goes on an adventure to find the Belt of Truth. Sir Pogo has a hard time finding the belt until the queen sends him an important message, a Bible story that is a clue to help him on his search. The story is found in 1 Samuel 20 and tells about a wonderful friendship between David and Jonathan. Jonathan was the King's son, and when he found out that his father wanted to hurt David, he told David the truth and David was able to escape to safety. The Bible story helps Sir Pogo the Knight discover that telling the truth is the key to finding the Belt of Truth. Our kids will learn that we should tell the truth too, because the truth helps others!

This new series will run for the next 8 weeks and focuses on the Armor of God. We will learn that Jesus was very special, and He did very special things that no one else could do. He showed God's love to people, He made sick people better, and He always helped people who needed Him. Lots of people loved Jesus. But there were some people who were jealous and mad because others loved Jesus so much. The jealous people were so mean that they wanted Jesus to die. So they took Him up to a hill and put Jesus on a cross. Jesus died on the cross. His friends laid His body in a stone tomb and a big rock was rolled in front of it. Three days later, very early in the morning, as the sun began to rise, Mary walked to the tomb. When she got there, the big stone was rolled away and the tomb was open. Mary looked inside, but Jesus was gone! An angel told her Jesus had risen from the dead! He was alive again!

I hope you take some time this week to think about the incredible sacrifice that Jesus made for us and how amazing it will be when we get to see Him one day in heaven.

Thank you for all that you do and all the love that you give to the kids in HD. We will learn that Palm Sunday is this weekend, and that it is a celebration of when Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey. After traveling from town to town sharing God's love with people, Jesus had one more thing that He needed to do to complete the special job He was born to do. And the place where He needed to go was Jerusalem. When the people in Jerusalem found out that Jesus was coming, they wanted to welcome Him. Jesus rode into the city on a donkey and the people began to lay palm leaves on the road for Jesus and His donkey to walk on. They waved palm leaves in the air and shouted, "HOSANNA!" The people were so thankful that Jesus had come. Our memory verse is a clue to what special job Jesus had to do and we'll find out what it means next weekend! See you this weekend!

Memory verse:

“He is not here, He has risen…” Matthew 28:6

The Pharisees

This weekend we are beginning a new series called, "He Has Risen!" He made people better when they were sick, and He told people stories that helped them to know God. But some people didn't like Jesus . They were called Pharisees. They wore fancy robes and liked to speak very loudly! Jesus didn't act like the Pharisees. He showed God's love to everyone, and in return, lots of people loved Jesus. This made the Pharisees very angry and they wanted to hurt Jesus. We will learn that our memory verse, "He is not here, He has risen" is a clue to what happens next in the story and that the story has a happy ending, but we'll have to wait until next weekend to hear about it. The city of Jericho was surrounded by a huge wall, and when the Israelites arrived there, they had to figure out how to get inside the city. God spoke to their leader, Joshua, and told him to have his army march around the city once a day for six days blowing trumpets. Then, on the seventh day, God told them to march around the city seven times. When they were finished, they were supposed to shout loudly and blow their trumpets! Even though it seemed like a crazy way to go to battle, the Israelites did what God asked of them and as they were shouting and blowing their trumpets, the walls around the city started crumbling to the ground. The Israelites were able to take over the Promised Land, just like God had promised them!

I cannot say enough about the amazing volunteers we have in the preschool. Every weekend I am reminded that we truly could not do what we do without you. Thank you so much for everything that you do and the dedication that you have for the kids who come here. As the Israelites were traveling towards Jericho, they came to the Jordan River. When they got there, God said He was going to do an incredible miracle so that everyone would know that He was helping the Israelites. So God told the Israelites to step out into the water and when they did, the water stopped flowing and the people crossed the river on dry ground! After everyone had crossed the river, God told them to send some men back to the middle of the river to pick up twelve stones. Once the men had carried the stones out of the river, they made a pile with them. The pile of stones was supposed to remind everyone of the miracle that God had performed at the Jordan River!

Rahab and the Spies

This weekend we are continuing our new series, “Promiseland.” Dexter tells us about what a good helper he was at school and we tell him the story of Rahab and the spies. We learn that after 40 years of wandering in the desert, the Israelites get a new leader named Joshua. Joshua sends two spies into the Promised Land to check it out before they go to battle. The spies go to see a woman named Rahab at her house. They know Rahab will be a good helper. When the king hears that there are spies in the land, he sends his guards to Rahab’s house to capture them. When the guards get there, Rahab hides the spies on her roof and tells the guards that they have already left. Then, Rahab gets a rope and the spies climb out of her window to safety. We will focus on the fact that it made God happy that Rahab helped the spies, and it makes God happy when we help people too.

Hope you are having a great week! This weekend we will hear the story of twelve spies who were sent to check out Canaan, the land God had promised to the Israelites. When the spies got there, they saw that the land was beautiful and there was plenty of food, but there were already people living there. In fact, the spies went back home and told everyone that the people living in the Promised Land were giants and they felt like grasshoppers next to them! Ten of the spies said that there was no way the Israelites could go in and take over the land. Two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, believed in God’s promise to them and tried to convince everyone that they could take over the land. Joshua and Caleb stood up for what they knew was right. They trusted and believed God. Unfortunately, no one else did, and the Israelites had to wait a very long time to enter the Promised Land.

See you this weekend!

Valentine's Weekend

This weekend we are celebrating Valentine's Day with a party weekend! In fact, when Jesus grew up, He traveled around teaching people about God and doing amazing miracles. But when Jesus returned to his hometown, people tried to throw Him off a cliff! Eventually, Jesus did give up his life, He died on a cross so that we could go to heaven. And that makes Him the world's greatest superhero!

In celebration of the end of this series, we are having a super fun courtyard party for our preschoolers this weekend. She needed to talk to the king, but she was scared. She wasn't allowed to visit the king unless he called for her. When Esther approached the king, he held out his scepter. That meant he wasn't mad at her and she could come talk to him. Queen Esther found the courage to tell the king what Haman had done and the king signed a new law that saved the Jewish people. During this 4 week series we will be discovering that there are people in the Bible that God made heroes even though everyone else considered them an underdog.

This weekend, we wil be learning about Zacchaeus from Luke 19:1-10. Zacchaeus was a short man who collected taxes for the king and took more than he was supposed to. One day when Jesus came to town, Zacchaeus climbed a tree to see Him since he couldn't see over the crowd. When Jesus saw Zacchaeus, he asked him to come down and take Him to his house. Everyone was upset that Jesus would want to go hang out with someone like Zacchaeus. While Jesus was at his house, Zacchaeus had a change of heart - he said he was going to give back all of the people's money. In fact, he said he was going to give back more than he took! By seeking Jesus, Zacchaeus became a hero!

On February 7 and 8 we will be having a big courtyard party to close out the Underdogs series. We will have kids dress up as their favorite super hero and we will have some fun activities!

Thanks for being there for our kids, we can't wait to see you this weekend!

What is a Missionary?

In 1 Thessalionans 1:7 it says, "your lives should be echoing the Master's word." I hope you will take some time to look forward to what this year has in store for you and maybe make some resolutions that will help you grow closer to God. You could resolve to read your bible for 15 minutes every day, find a quiet moment to pray in the middle of your day, or show God's love to someone who doesn't know Him. Here's a paraphased version for you:

One night in a city named Bethlehem, a baby was born in a stable. Jesus the son of God had come! Outside the city, in the middle of a field, shepherds were watching over their flocks by night. It was very quiet and peaceful. Suddenly, a great light appeared in the sky. The shepherds looked up and they were very afraid. It was an angel! The angel had good news for those shepherds. “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news that will give you great joy. Today in Bethlehem, a Savior was born! And this is how you will know he is the special one. You will find a baby lying in a manger! Suddenly a whole group of angels appeared in the sky and began singing praises to God! The shepherds were amazed! They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph and just like the angel told them, Jesus the Savior was lying in a manger. The shepherds returned to the fields praising God for all they had seen and heard that night.

I hope you have a very merry Christmas. The angel Gabriel told her that her baby was God’s son and His name would be Jesus. It was almost time for her to have her baby when Joseph got a message that everyone had to travel back to the city where they were born to be counted. Joseph gently helped Mary onto his donkey and they went to Bethlehem. When they finally got there, it was nighttime, and Mary was tired. They tried to find a room to stay in, but because there were so many people in town, there was no place to stay! Mary and Joseph went to a stable where animals slept. They got ready to go to sleep and then something amazing happened. Mary had her baby! She wrapped him up in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger. Abraham decided to let Lot choose whatever part of the land he wanted first. Lot chose the very best part of the land, but God rewarded Abraham for sharing. He told Abraham that he could have all the land as far as he could see and that he would give him plenty of family to fill it up.

We can't wait to see you all this weekend! The kids will be learning about God's protection through the story of Daniel in the lion's den. You can read the story in Daniel chapter 6.

Here's a devotional I found that ties in with this weeks lesson. Enjoy!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Bible Exploration: Daniel 6:1-23

Daniel faced significant hardship, and he endured because of his strong relationship with God. All of us face difficult situations. The question is, how will we respond? God delivered Daniel from the lions because Daniel trusted in God. How did that trust develop? Obviously Daniel had often presented requests to God and received answers. The more this young man came to know God, the more intensely he sought God. Daniel knew that God could be trusted, so he made it a point to give his anxieties to God.

To think about:

1. Why do many Christians continue to be anxious about their situations? (They don’t realize that God really is in control; we just reflect what the rest of the world does.)

God is Bigger than Goliath!

Last week we kicked off our series, "God is Big," with the story of Jonah. This week, we will be learning about how David defeated a giant named Goliath with God's help. You can find the story in 1 Samuel 17.

What I love about this story is that it teaches kids that they don't have to fight their battles alone - something us adults also need to be reminded of. I was reading a devotion online that summarized the story of David and Goliath and then asked some reflection questions (listed below). Try to take some time to answer them today. I hope the reminder that you don't have to do it alone brings you encouragement today... whether the "it" is something as small as David or as big as Goliath.

1) Are you facing a giant problem or impossible situation? Stop for a minute and refocus. Can you see the situation more clearly from God's vantage point?

2) Do you need to take courageous action in the face of insults and fearful circumstances? Do you trust that God will fight for you and with you? Remember, God's opinion is the only one that matters.

God Is Big!

This weekend is the beginning of our new series, "God Is Big!" If you want to study up before this weekend, you can read the story in Exodus Chapter 13.

I found a devotion online that draws from the story of Moses and the concept of following God. (Follow is our key word this week.) Hope you enjoy.
Are you following God's plan for your life?
Exodus 5:22--6:12

How low have you ever felt in your life? Some of us have been pretty low if we were honest with one another now wouldn't we? Moses felt as low as he could go. He was supposed to be the deliverer, and yet it looked as if he was failing.

Ex 5:22 Moses returned to the LORD and said, "O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people? Is this why you sent me? 23 Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all."

Exodus 6:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country." 2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens.

5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. 6 "Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.'"

9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage.10 Then the LORD said to Moses, 11 "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country." 12 But Moses said to the LORD, "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?"

How many times had God explained it to him? Yet, like many of us, he had trouble remembering the Lord's assurances. What was Moses to do now? The message was a rerun of the last one: "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the sons of Israel go out of his land" (v. 11).

Can't you just hear Moses saying to himself, "Go to Pharaoh, Lord? My own people just bought me a one-way ticket caravan back to Midian, and You want me to go back to Pharaoh? R-r-r-e---m-m-m-em---ber m-m-me? I'm the guy who can't t-t-t-talk. Shoot, I'd mess up a rock fight, Lord. I can't get it together. I'm at the end of my rope. How in the world are You going to pull this off?"

Moses didn't know it at the moment, but he'd put before the Lord the best proposition yet. I'm at the end of my rope. Lord, how are you going to do it? I'd like to underline a major truth in this world of ours that I don't pretend to understand. Here it is: the best framework for the Lord God to do His work is when things are absolutely impossible and we feel totally unqualified to handle it.

In spite of the Lord's assurances, things kept going from bad to worse for Moses. The Israelites would no longer listen to him. Moses was at the end of his rope and yet that is when He will discover again that God is faithful. Time after time, He brings us to our absolute end and then proves Himself faithful. Moses was told to follow God's plan - to be faithful no matter his circumstances no matter what people may say - follow God's plan. You and I must do the same - the question is - are you following God's plan for your life?

Moses - Week 2

This week we are continuing our series on Moses and focusing on how Moses obeyed God. I will be asking You the volunteers to teach the children a simple lesson each weekend. The lesson will be the same for 4 weeks. The June lesson will be God Helps Me to Grow. The objective for this lesson will be to help each child associate new accomplishments with God and Jesus. We will be using a simple rhyme to teach this to the children. I hope you have fun with this. Please feel free to let me know if you hav any questions/concerns. I also welcome any input you might have for future lessons or activities. I found this article relating to teaching babies about God and Jesus.

By Chip Alford
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Can you really "teach" babies about God?
Recent findings on brain development suggest an affirmative answer to that question.
"Babies are beginning to form associations about everything in their world, so how could you not begin introducing them to God and Jesus?" Lynette Henderson, a doctoral student at the George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., asked. "Will they understand those concepts the way older children or adults will? Of course not. But you're laying a foundation."

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

Thank you for all you do!!!

Hello

I hope you all are having a wonderfull week.

This weekend in Kids Boost the children will be watching a video titled Lost: A Sheep Story.
